Events are run under the SCCA RallyCross Rules. Here is an overview of key RallyCross rules. Click on the 2012 SCCA RallyCross Rules link below for the complete rules.
DRIVERS – Must possess a valid driver’s license (not a learner’s permit or restricted license). One passenger age 12 and over is allowed in the front seat. SAFETY – Vehicle must pass a safety inspection before each event. Helmets (Snell rating of SA95, M95, K98 or newer) and seat belts are required. Loaner helmets are available. Roll cages are NOT required but are recommended. No alcoholic beverages during the event. COURSE – The course is typically set up on a gravel parking lot or dirt surface. Course markers (orange cones) are used to mark turns. No jumps, deep ruts, large holes or other dangerous features are allowed, although the course surface typically changes during the event. Speeds are limited to reasonable and prudent for the course conditions and, for the fastest cars, should not normally exceed 60 miles per hour on straights and 40 mph in turns. SCORING – RallyCross uses a cumulative scoring system. All runs count. A typical event has three (3) runs in the morning session and three (3) in the afternoon. Fun runs afterward if time permits. Provisional results are available at the end of the event. Final results are posted on the website. PENALTIES – Two (2) seconds for displacing a cone. Ten (10) seconds for missing a gate. ELIGIBLE VEHICLES – Any fixed roof production vehicle (including a convertible with factory hard top attached) is eligible to compete. Pickup trucks, sport utility vehicles and 4X4s are eligible to compete but may be excluded for safety reasons (e.g. high-profile/high center of gravity). VEHICLE CLASSIFICATION – Vehicles are divided into categories based on drivetrain and type of modifications allowed. Vehicle classes are: RALLY STOCK CLASS – as equipped from the manufacturer with very limited modifications allowed.
RALLY PREPARED CLASS – limited modifications allowed.
MODIFIED CLASS – almost any modifications allowed.
* Colorado RallyCross combines front and rear wheel drive cars in a single class within the stock and prepared race groups DAY OF THE EVENT SCHEDULE – Here is the schedule for a typical event:
