EVENT #4 RECAP - Sixty-seven competitors took to the gravel at Pueblo Motorsports Park for Event #4. Not quite as hot as the 103+ degree heat at last year's event, but still plenty warm. Regular passes by the water truck kept dust to a non-life-threatening level. The plan to use a new racing area at PMP fell through when nearby drag racers became apopleptic at the thought of dust settling on the drag strip. Our offer to water down the drag strip to wash off the dust only served to confirm that drag racers, in addition to having an aversion to dust, don't have much of a sense of humor either. Oh well. The event took place on the "old" site and competitors enjoyed the longest runs of the season. Nice to see nearly a dozen new competitors at the Pueblo event. The official results and season standings are posted under the Results tab. NEXT UP: EVENT #5 AT DEER TRAIL - The CO R-X season reaches the halfway point with Event #5 on Saturday, July 17 at Colorado Off Road Extreme in delightful Deer Trail, Colorado. Ted Vong and the Short Stop food trailer will be on site with breakfast and lunch food as well as plenty of cold drinks. Be sure to pre-register online (remember, no problem if you pre-register but aren't able to make it to the event). Bring a new competitor and you can race for free. NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP UPDATE - Check out the SCCA website for complete details about the RallyCross National Championship coming up on August 20-22. Register soon if you haven't already done so. Supplemental regulations for the event should be posted soon. Never too early to reserve a hotel room. And feel free to post a note under Forums if you have extra room or need a place to stay. Camping will be available at the site too. CAR SCIENCE - As most gearheads know, engine performance decreases as elevation increases. An engine typically loses 3% of its horsepower with each 1,000 feet of elevation gain. This means a Subaru WRX with 227 HP at sea level would make only 190 HP in the Mile High City. And an Isuzu I-Mark RS at the top of Pikes Peak would pretty much be running on battery power-only. |
Welcome to Colorado RallyCross! What is RallyCross? Think of it as autocross gone wild. Instead of a paved parking lot, we race on gravel or dirt under all types of conditions—dust, more dust, mud, rain, snow, ice, wind, and even darkness. If you’re new to RallyCross, check out our website for more information about the most exciting entry-level motorsport on the planet! If you’re a RallyCross veteran, be sure to mark this year’s events on your calendar. We hope to see you at the next event!
